How do I find the time to work my home business?

time management

First and foremost, I can relate!  When I started my home business I struggled with time management for sure.  I’m a stay-at-home mom, so I felt I was all over the place when it came to running a new home business, caring for the family and running a household.  Yikes!

Luckily, I figured out a system that works for me and hopefully it can work for you too.

I finally realized I needed set hours to work my side business so it didn’t take me away from my family.  Isn’t that the whole point of a home business; to provide TIME FREEDOM for yourself and family?

So here’s what works for me!

  1. On Sunday evening or Monday morning, I plan out all my content, Facebook posts and blog posts for the week.  I typically never plan any errands, meetings or lunch dates for Monday.  Mondays are my major work day (a load of laundry might get done as well.)  I’ll even through in some personal development time on Monday too to refocus myself and inspire my week.
  2. Once or twice a week I’ll work my business another 3-4 hours focusing on new articles, photography and connecting with others.  Each week is different depending on my family’s schedule.
  3. When my kids are in school I try to set aside 1 day per week (typically Monday) to work the business from 9am – 2pm.  This works well if your kids are elementary grades or higher.
  4. Aim for 15 hours per week dedicated to your home business.

It’s important to work your business however you see fit.  Time management is probably one of the issues why people give up or quit their home businesses.

Stick to your schedule and stay the course.  Success is right around the corner!
