Welcome back to a bonus episode. I am coming into your earbuds today, and I want to talk about the two hottest Instagram trends that are happening right now. As of today, as I’m sitting here in my pajamas on Wednesday morning, April 14th, the two hottest Instagram trends right now are Instagram reels and carousel posts.
Why? Well, let’s talk about why, no matter how you feel about Instagram reels, either you love them or you hate them. But right now, reels are currently getting up to 10 times more views than when it premiered. And the reason for that is as of today, there are no ad opportunities for Instagram reels. So everyone on Instagram is getting the same opportunities to get the visibility and get the engagement on reels. What also is really cool about reels is they make up a greater than 20% of the real estate on Instagram. And when I’m talking about real estate, I’m talking about how much space on your screen. Something takes up. So reels are getting their own tab and they’re dominating the explore page right now. And Instagram reels takes up more than one fifth of the space on Instagram. So guess what? When you use Instagram reels, you are not only maximizing your visibility, the possibility to get pushed to the Explorer tab, but you’re also taking up most of the screen on Instagram.
All right, let’s jump to number two. Carousel posts what’s happening right now is a lot of users. A lot of people are complaining that they are having the lowest engagement ever on their typical feed posts. And when I say typical feed posts, I’m referring to their standalone single photos in their newsfeed. But on the flip side of that, the highest engagement rates right now are not only happening for Instagram rails, but they’re also happening for carousel posts. Now, carousel posts are those posts that have multiple images within one post and the carousel posts that are performing really well right now that are getting the highest engagement rates are the how to the step-by-step tutorials. You’re teaching your audience something. So they want to learn something for you, from you on the carousel posts, they have to literally put their finger on the post and swipe left to see the next few images.
So carousel posts are getting a really high engagement rate. So what should you do if you’re someone who’s trying to get more engagement on Instagram right now, you want more engagement. You want to maximize your visibility. You should be focusing on creating reels and carousel posts. Now I’m not saying you need to do these every single day. You need to mix these in, within your weekly strategy. So maybe you want to show up with a reel, maybe one to two times a week, and maybe you want to do a carousel post, maybe one to two times a week. That doesn’t need to be hard.
