The 7 Components to a Rockin’ Social Media Plan with Lora Shipman


What on earth is a social media plan?

We all know we should be marketing our business on social media, yet it can be so overwhelming and hard to know where to start.

A lot of people depend only on social media for their marketing plan. Yet, you may want to reconsider that. You may need to diversify with other avenues as well.

Lora breaks down the marketing plan into 7 components. Then there is the physical plan.

The 1st component is the objective. Why are you on social media? Once you nail that down, it will help you determine what the plan is for the long run.

The 2nd thing you want to look at is who are you trying to attract? A lot of time your avatar is a lot like you. Consider what solution you are given and what problem are you solving.

The 3rd step is to identify your niche. What industry are you in? Try to be hyper focused. Once you are hyper focused, there’s a potential for you to broaden a bit.

The 4th thing to consider is where you want to be. Determine the platforms you want to be active on. Start by choosing two. Instagram and Facebook shouldn’t be those two, since they are so similar. Incorporate one other channel besides Instagram and Facebook. Think about where your target audience hangs out.

The next thing to think about is the 12-month content calendar. The 12-month calendar is a glimpse into the plan for the year. Brainstorm themes, objectives or products you will be focusing on for any given month. Think outside the box when you’re looking for theme ideas and content ideas.

Measurement and reporting are also important. It’s not good enough to have people like, comment and share. You want to set benchmarks for yourself. When setting goals, makes sure your goals are SMART goals. SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound.
